***Update from foster family!  “This little lady is settling nicely into foster life at home.. she is housetrained and has no problem letting you know that she needs to go potty outside. She is on a normal potty schedule of 3 times daily. She is still getting used to her surroundings but is quiet once she settles into her crate for the day or evening. She is having success  with the other dogs in the home as well! She definitely has had a time where lack of food was evident and is slowly learning that those days are over. She is working on taking treats gently with some success. She tends to gobble food quickly and her new family will have to be willing to feed her separately, and leave her alone while dining. She is a easy to walk, with a little pep in her step. There is little or no pulling, or bad behavior on her leash. She loves to be with her people and would probably do best with a family who is home frequently. She is an experienced lady who needs to continue her training to make her the dog that everyone adores.”***

POCA-HOUNDUS - 5-8 YEARS OLD, 60 POUNDS, SEEMS HOUSE TRAINED, FRIENDLY, PLAYFUL, GOOD ON LEASH, SKIN ISSUES, MAY BE PROTECTIVE OVER FOOD, MAY GROWL AT FOOD BOWL.

We're not sure how long POCA-HOUNDUS has been out on her own or what she's been through prior to arriving on our doorstep courtesy of one of our awesome Animal Control Officers.  She has missing fur along her back and tail, crusty gook around her eyes, and ear infections.  She has been treated (and is being treated by our vet staff) and is clearing up nicely.  Pocahoundus was friendly to me when I first met her. She was lively and ready to go for a walk.  She is great on the leash, too.  Out in the yard, she's playful and jumpy, chasing tennis balls but not really retrieving them.  Pocahoundus seems very friendly to people and possibly other dogs but we have found her to be a bit protective over her food so if there is another dog in the household, this will have to be managed.  Pocahoundus will need a new family ready and willing to manage this guarding behavior if it should arise.  Pocahoundus will need a new family willing to help her with any medicine or supplements required to help her fur grow back and for any other medical issues should they arise as they normally do as dogs (any pets) age.  Pocahoundus is not perfect. She will not be perfect when first entering a new home. She will need time to get used to a new schedule and routine and new people and places.  Please stop and think if you are ready to bring a new pet into your home and if you are willing to overlook an accident or two or even some behaviors you don't like as you all get used to each other, come meet Pocahoundus at the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center. We are located at 341 S Birdneck Road in VB.  We are open daily except for Tuesdays.  If you don't see this pretty and happy girl when you walk through the kennels, please just ask to meet her!  Thank you for choosing adoption!
