About 2003-1605 Zoe

  • Status: Available for Adoption (adoption info)
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Red

ZOE - 5-6 years old, 50 pounds, seems house trained, ok with some dogs if given proper introductions and time, great with most people (kids included), playful, energetic, good on leash, nervous with new people reaching for her neck/head.

Surrendered for not getting along with other dogs, Zoe needs to find a new home.  She is beautiful. Her soft tannish brown fur shines with the sun. She is friendly and seems house trained. I met Zoe and was careful after noting how nervous she was with people reaching for her neck. I couldn't even clip the leash or click the harness on her.  She was taking my treats though!  Slip lead found and off we went!  Zoe is definitely anxious with the new unfamiliar surroundings she is facing. She sniffed everywhere once we were outside.  In the yard, she was no different although with the treats, I was getting her as accustomed to me as I could in those few minutes we were spending together.  She came when called, sat on command and a few times pushed her nose into my treat bag.  Very silly girl!  This motivation will likely be the key to her heart for a new family. She will need time and space as she gets used to yet another new environment.  I found within a few minutes (and treats of course) I was able to work my hands all over her head and neck.  I didn't push it though, baby steps here.  Zoe is great with most people even children although with what we're seeing in the timidity department, older more respectful children might be best. Supervision is also a must when bringing any new dog into a home and with Zoe, it's the same. Supervision when she's around the children is the best way to set our girl up for success.  It seems very obvious Zoe has had a litter or two and it's time to stop that train.  Zoe deserves a home where she can be babied, no more worrying about puppies!  Zoe will warm up to you in time.  She is one of those who seems like she will thrive on attention and affection but it will have to come in time, on her terms, not yours.  Zoe is very playful and energetic. Daily walks, runs and playtime will be very important for her. It's also a fantastic way to bond with your new girl!  Call or make your appointment online now to meet this pretty girl.  She's waiting at the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center to meet you. 341 S Birdneck Road, open daily except for Tuesdays.
